I just finished reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed. This is a book about one lady’s journey on the Pacific Crest Trail after a particularly difficult time in her life. It is the story of a journey of self discovery and healing. She shares her experiences and the people that she met along the way. She shares her ups and her downs and you can almost feel all of those emotions with her.
Pros: It was an awesome story! It really made me want to hike the Appalachian Trail that much more! She showed some of the reality of hiking that long of a trail. She did not sugar coat the downs and she showed her exuberance at the really awesome moments! She enjoyed life and did not push things out that she was trying to heal out of the way.
Cons: She was not educated enough about what she needed and the realities of hiking the trail. She made stupid mistakes. This may just be the REI Sales Associate talking in me, but I can’t tell you how frustrated I got several times when she was talking about her gear or other experiences. I felt like the end is kind of rushed. She focused on the details too much in part of the book and then rushed the end.
Overall, I did enjoy the book. I enjoyed her story and it made me that much more excited to hike the Appalachian Trail later on down the line!
Have you read Wild? What did you think of it?
