So, while I say that Huskies are wonderful, they also are not great sometimes. They have their quirks. I mean that is just like any dog you know? Huskies can just be way more intense about their quirks than some dogs.
Reasons NOT to Have Huskies
~ They are crazy! Like seriously insane. Faelyn at four and a half is just now finally starting to calm down. If you do not get them out, they will get destructive. They are a high energy dog and need to be taken out regularly. They really must live in an active lifestyle.
~ They are very independent. If you give them a command they will often look at you and think “that sounds like a good idea, but let me see if that fits in with my plan.” They like to do what they want to do, not always what you want them to do.
~ They are extremely smart. This is great sometimes but sometimes they are just too smart for their own good. They will get in trouble in ways that you never expected they would. They get into things you didn’t think they knew what it was.
~ They like to run. And I mean run. When they escape from an enclosed space they pick one direction and just keep on running. It takes a lot to get them back. We often have to bribe our boys with car rides. We pull up alongside them and ask them if they want to go for a ride. That is the only way that we can get them to come home.
~ They can be highly destructive. HIGHLY. Most of the time most people don’t understand that a husky is not your typical family dog. They are not great to just be left inside. They need attention and running or hiking or just getting out and exercising. They are a working dog. They make wonderful family dogs if you are a very active family. If not, don’t get one. You will be so upset with this dog all the time. You have to keep them active otherwise they get cabin fever and destroy things.
So, when you think about getting a Husky, please keep both of these posts in mind and make sure you are getting the right fit for your family as well as for them!
