Hello!

Hey there!

It’s been awhile! I figured, you know, its only been 2 years, a reintroduction never hurt anyone!

My name is Ashley. I am terrible at keeping up a blog. I get distracted by life and forget that I used to write. I love writing. I love reading. I always have a book on me. I always have a notebook/journal on me.

Current read: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
Current notebook/journal: Paperback gold and black journal from Target

I also love food! OMG…. Do I love food…..
I think about food all the time. I think about what I am going to eat at the next meal even before I have finished the meal I am currently devouring. I think about things I want to try and make and things that look weird but could be fun to make. I think about restaurants I want to go to because they specialize in a certain dish or style of food. Food is constantly on my brain.

I also love wine and whiskey. I currently manage a taproom just outside of Denver, CO and that job has brought me into contact with some fabulous distributors and fabulous spirits. I am researching different spirits on a very regular basis. I am definitely drawn to the smaller batch, craft spirits and wines, not so much the bigger commercial ones.

I live to be outside. I love being outside any chance I get. I have already gotten my first sunburn of the year. I love to soak up that Vitamin D in the sunshine. I love hiking with my dog. I am currently training for a half marathon. It is just about river season as well, so I will definitely be on the river plenty this summer. I am happy and sad that ski season is over. Just really any chance I get to be outside, I will take it.

I also hate taking normal selfies. I think they are overrated. Lol. So, here is a goofy selfie of me on a ferry in Ireland.

Down in the Dumps

Not gonna lie guys, I have been feeling a little down in the dumps lately. Feeling super run down with work and just not inspired at all with where I am at in life. I have dreams and aspirations but I really just feel like I am going nowhere with them. I really feel stuck in retail, which is definitely not where I want to be. I think my husband feels the same way. So you have two peeps who are feeling stuck, that doesn’t exactly ignite any kind of passion in marriage either lol. Not to say that things are dying, it just isn’t steaming passion at the moment. It happens. There are periods of abundance and drought in every relationship, whether it is marriage, friendship or even family.

But anyway, back to my main topic of thought today. I want to work and do something I am passionate about. I love talking with people and sharing info or tidbits or just revelations in day to day life. I mean I have been at this blog for about two and half years now. How crazy is that?! I honestly love it! I love seeing peoples lives and I love sharing my own. I love writing! I really do. I write a lot. I journal on my own. I write here. I have random little notes all over the place in my house. It is kind of ridiculous. I truly think that writing is good for the soul. I think it gets things out and who knows, can sometimes lead to wonderful things.

I have seen this Passion Planner pop up on Facebook multiple times this week and I have watched her video and read a little bit about her. It is wonderful! I think it is a great idea. Such a great way for some inspiration.

Watch the video!

I hope that gives you and I some inspiration for the day!

See ya!

Happy November!

It’s November! Yay! The air is getting cooler, the drinks are getting warmer, and ski season is getting closer! šŸ™‚

Hope you guys had a great Halloween last night! Mine was definitely enjoyable!

But on to November! This month means NaBloPoMo! I told you about it a couple of days ago. Hope you guys are ready to blog along with me this month! I am really looking forward to reading your posts as well!

My posts of choice are going to be lists. Lists lists lists! I usually have several going at any given time just to get me through my week and help me remember things. I swear I am going to lose my ability to remember things sooner than hoped lol! I figure that the only proper way to start off this lovely month is by telling you the top 3 things I love about fall!

3 Things I Love About Fall:

1~ The colors of the leaves. The reds, the oranges, the yellows. What is there not to love?! When I was in college, the hill right next to campus looked like it was on fire every fall with the wide array of colors that were displayed across it!

2~ Sweaters! I love sweaters! I wish I had more! I currently have lots of hoodies. But the few sweaters I do have, I absolutely love! I love the look of sweaters, especially sweaters and leggings!

3~ Crisp nights! There is nothing quite like sitting around a fire with some friends on a cool night. Hanging out and just talking. Plus it means that my room is cooler in the evening so it is easier for me to sleep without nightmares! Love it!

What are some of the things you love about fall?

See ya!

NaBloPoMo!

November is almost here! Can you believe it?! Where has October gone?! I’m really excited for the weather to really start cooling off! It has still been in the 70s and 80s here. So crazy! Bring on the snow!

Anyway, since November is almost here that means NaBloPoMo! That means National Blog Posting Month! So excited! I am committing to blogging everyday for the month of November! I know I know, I have struggled to keep up with monthly challenges before. But I have since organized things a little better for me and I think this one will work out well! My theme for the month is going to be lists! I am going to post a list a day. Whatever comes to mind, nothing special lol. I love lists and thought this one would be super fun!

Communal blogging challenges are so much fun! They really help with community and they help all of us to branch out of our comfort zones. That being said, I would love to see some of you guys taking the challenge too! I would love to blog along with you! Let me know if you are going to participate so I know to keep an extra eye out for your posts!

Happy blogging guys!

See ya!

March 13: Photo Edit You Like

This one is one of my favorite shots. It was originally kind of dim and not as sharp. But I played around in Lightroom as soon as I got my camera and this is actually one of the first pictures I took with my camera. I made his shirt brighter and wanted to make the words pop out a little more. Overall, I can’t remember what exactly I did to adjust the settings but I love this edit. šŸ™‚

The Desire to Write More Consistently this Year

I am always looking for ways to blog more consistently. Especially during the winter time when I don’t feel like I am doing as much in life. Spring, Summer and Fall always bring more outings and get togethers, where as winter means cold, snow, and ice here in the lovely Denver area. With so many transplants who have not figured out how to drive in the snow, there is no desire to be out on the roads unless absolutely necessary. Thankfully the snow has been half way decent this year so it has been good to stay active in these cold cold months. But this girl is ready for the warmth and sunshine to get out and play in the mountains!

In the meantime, and throughout the rest of the year I have a couple ideas to keep this blog hopping! lol. For the past couple years in April I have taken part in the April A-to-Z Challenge. While that is a fun challenge to partake in, I wanted something different this year. I wanted something soon too! Did not really come up with anything but I had several things I wanted to try in my To-Do list on pinterest. So, I thought I would tackle them throughout the year. So, each month will bring a new 30 Day Challenge! Why not right?! I am finishing out February as is. I am currently working my way through 10 Ways to Pray for Your Husband. ( Sorry, my mouse pad on my mac is glitchy and I was having trouble highlighting the whole thing.) But once March starts, I am diving head first into the categories below. It is part of my new year’s resolutions to get things off of my to-do list so that is killing two birds with one stone.
Should be fun! If you want to take part in any of them alongside me, let me know! I would love to read along with you!

30 Day Challenges:

March: 30 Day Photo ChallengeĀ

April: 30 Day Song Challenge

May: 30 Days to a Better WifeĀ

June: Blog Every Day in June

July: July Photo Challenge

August: 30 Day Relationship ChallengeĀ

September: 30 Day Book Challenge

October: Florabella Photo ChallengeĀ

November: Novel in a Month

December: Capturing December / Spouse Christmas Countdown

So, I realize the last two months are a little ridiculous but I love those months and I couldn’t help myself lol. Maybe they will be adjusted but for right now I’m feeling ambitious!

See ya!

Book Review: The Name of the Wind

I go through phases of reading lots of fiction or reading lots of non-fiction. I happen to be in a phase of reading a lot of fiction right now. Haha. I had forgotten how much fun it is to get so wrapped up in a story that it is difficult to put the book down. When reading my non-fiction books I can pick it up and put it down with no problem most of the time. However, with this book I had trouble putting it down. I wanted to do nothing else except read this book. (Good thing there is a sequel.) I had never heard of Patrick Rothfuss. Was not familiar with his work at all. A friend from work was reading it and said it was really good so I said I would like to borrow it when he was done. Oh man, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is a must read if you like fantasy books. It was so much fun!

Pros: The story was so well written so you got wrapped up in the book and could not put it down. Amazing. The characters were relatable. There were not gaps in the story to where you wondered what in the world was going on. The imagery was wonderful. It was easy to imagine exactly what the author was describing. The creatures and the places and the people had enough description to aid your imagination and then left the rest for your mind to figure out on its own.

Cons: The first 30 pages were a little slow going. It takes you a bit to realize that the main character is telling his life story to someone. After the first 30 pages it picks up. But honestly, you just have to kind of trudge through those first 30 pages. It happens.

Overall: I loved this book. I am so excited to read the sequel. It is not a young adult fantasy. It is something that anyone could enjoy if you enjoy reading that genre. I am honestly hoping that a movie is made out of this. I would love to relive this story over and over. I don’t say that about too many books lol.

I hope you pick it up and read it. It is such a great story!

I am going to try to finish reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin before I pick up the sequel but we shall see how that goes.

See ya!

Book Review: A Homemade Life

Ok, lets get something out on the table. I have a problem. Like it can be downright ridiculous sometimes. Take this week for example. I have read three books just this week. Granted a couple of them I had started and then put down to pick up another one but at least this one I picked up three days ago and I’m done. I plan on starting the next one when I am done posting this. So, like I said, I have a problem.Ā

I just finished reading A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg. Oh my goodness, I loved this book. This book is essentially a recipe book but unlike other recipe books, she shares stories about how she got this recipe or memories that make this recipe one of her favorites. I love that. And let me say these recipes look simply amazing! Some of them she came about by accident. Some are from friends. Some are from family. You get a kind of biography as well as a recipe book in one volume!Ā

Pros: Her writing was so readable. It was also extremely relatable. You could picture her stories perfectly. You could also taste her recipes without actually making them. So awesome. I loved the shorter chapters. I could read a chapter at a time or several chapters at a time. She was not pretentious about her food or recipes. I love how she said that recipes are meant to be shared and that secret recipes are just frustrating! We all want to replicate something that we find delicious so why hide it?

Cons: I can’t think of any off the top of my head. She kept flip flopping between foodie and not foodie. But that is how I am too so that did not really bother me either lol. Right off the bat, I can’t think of anything. I hope she continues writing.Ā

Overall it was a really good read. Definitely made me want to go experiment with some simple ingredients a little more. It was a feel good kind of read. I loved her voice and the vibrance with which she painted her life. It was just lovely.Ā

Check it out! You can also check out her blog here.Ā

F- French Women Don’t Get Fat

Book Review time! It just so happens that F comes just when I finish this book! How awesome! This is not the first time I have read this book. It was a reread of the book. It has so really great principles in it that one can always stand to reread and rethink about.

It is a diet book of sorts and yet not. She is a frenchwoman who explains how the majority of french women continue to stay thin even when they enjoy so much pleasure in their drink and food. She does not tell you what you can and cannot eat, she just tells you how to enjoy life and yet still stan thin and healthy.

Pros: I love the way she talks. She throws in stories of her childhood and of other areas of her life. It is just an extremely enjoyable read! She does not make you feel guilty for wanting to enjoy chocolate and bread and wine and champagne. She shares her secrets for how to enjoy them while learning the discipline of moderation. I love how she talks about some of our weaknesses as offenders and how to cut them out. It is not a follow these steps and you will lose pounds in weeks kind of a book. It is a this lifestyle is one that so many frenchwomen follow and look how happy and healthy they are kind of book. So awesome!

Cons: Sometimes she can come across as a little snooty. It happens. She also uses french phrases throughout her book and doesn’t explain them so it can be a little frustrating but again it happens. She tries to be relatable and sometimes just does not succeeding. She lives a very posh lifestyle which to me feels not quite so relatable sometimes.

Overall I love this book. I bought it and will most likely reread it again sometime down the line. I definitely recommend it. Pick it up at your local library or bookstore. Read read read guys!

See ya!
