Updates!

Ok so everyone makes resolutions in 2013. Well, almost everyone. I can’t say that I made any solid resolutions, I just decided that I want my life to include a couple of things this year! I know its a little late to talk about how I want this year to look, but we gotta spread it out so that we don’t get overwhelmed  by everyone posting about New Year’s resolutions all at once, right?

So here it goes!

What I want out of this year:

1. update my blog and make it more consistent. I want to provide better content for you. I want it to be more consistent. I want to talk about what you want to talk about. What are some things you would like to see on this blog? Honestly. More recipes? More outdoor adventures? More DIY? Other items?

2. Get my etsy shop up and running. I have loved the idea of owning my own business for a while. I love making things with my hands. Making things and scheduling my own hours and interacting with customers who are buying something I made, how cool would that be?!

3. Read more. I still have yet to finish Anna Karenina. I need to just sit down and focus! Haha! This whole 52 books in 52 weeks thing is definitely harder than I thought. lol!

4. Get back in shape. I will admit it, I have gotten a little soft. I am not a fan of that. So, I am not making a resolution to lose so much pounds, but just to start getting back in shape and living a healthier lifestyle.

So, now that we are moving and will have our own place hopefully soon, I feel inspired to get moving! We are still waiting to hear about when we are going to move in so I will give some pictures of our new place when that has been fully resolved.

What do you want out of this year? What are you goals?

Enjoy!

Book Review: Boss of You

So, I am a little behind already and it is only the beginning of the challenge! Gah! Anyway, I finished my first book last night: Boss of You by Lauren Bacon and Emira Mears.
Likes:
It was a book that very plainly talked about owning your own business and explained in terms that even I could understand (which is saying something.) A lot of entrepreneurship books can have all this business jargon that honestly I just do not understand. This one really explained things clearly without making you feel like an idiot. It is very clearly pointed at women entrepreneurs. I like that a lot because I have different thoughts on running a business than men do sometimes. I would love to keep it small whereas a lot of other books (not this one) are about growth, growth, growth. Later, when I know more and am more experienced in what I make and do and decide to maybe open a business than it would be most likely to just bring in a little extra income for our little family. This book definitely understands that. It is just a great book to help you figure out the ins and outs to running your own business.

Dislikes:
They got a little repetitive sometimes. No biggie, but I just got a little tired of reading after a while. I think that is why I finished this book late. Usually, I cannot put a book down but There were a couple days where I did not pick it up. They also used a bunch of examples I could not easily relate to. That may be because I am no where near ready to open a business or it could be that they were talking from a consulting agency perspective as opposed to a craft business perspective. Either way, sometimes I just got bored and just drifted off into my own thoughts.

Overall:
I really did enjoy reading the book. Some parts were super fun, some parts were super informative, and some were just interesting to think about. If you are looking to open your own business or you already have and have some questions, this really is a great book to read. They have the book divided into sections such as marketing, finances, getting started, maintaining and growing. It is a super easy book to navigate and enjoy. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in opening their own business. It helps give you a realistic view of what owning your business will mean in your business and personal life. Give it a read!
