Book Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Alright, so I was in between The Name of the Wind and its sequel. (still haven’t started that.) I have a stack of my brother’s books that I borrowed to read and so I grabbed a thin one to bust through. This one was very interesting. I had seen the movie and so I knew the general idea of the book. This is definitely a young adult book. Great for a high school read. Not my favorite book in the world but they can’t all be right? This book is a series of letters from a boy named Charlie and it gives insight into the mind and troubles of a high school mind and life.

Pros: The story was fascinating. It was based in the early 1990s and definitely gave an accurate view of what goes on in the mind and life of a freshman boy. The author definitely did not make the kid seem more adult than he was supposed to be. He had the right voice. One of the letters even opens up with “I love twinkies!” lol. There were great relationships and great conflict.

Cons: It was terrifying to relive the mind of a high school student. Lol. I don’t want to remember how I thought and some of the things that had to be learned about the ways of the world. I know everyone may not see it that way but ya lol. Other than that, it was still a great book!

Overall: It was definitely a quick , good read. High school students would definitely enjoy it or even college. More of a young adult book as opposed to one that is more geared towards adults. Great descriptions and stories. Worth the read either way.

See ya!

F is for Friendship

This topic is something that is ver special to me and very important in my life. I am someone who tends to prefer to stay home and would rather curl up with a book instead of going out with friends most nights. This is something that I have gotten a lot of time to do since we have moved to Altoona. I have greatly enjoyed the time that I have had with my in-laws and my church and the wonderful ladies I have met at my jobs but I miss my friends from school. We knew each other really well and we saw each other every single day. That is a time that I miss and memories that I definitely treasure!

I think friendship is important in anyone’s life. Friends keep you grounded and challenge you and bring different ideas that help you grow in any area of your life. I am looking forward to moving to Denver and finding people who enjoy doing things that I like to do. It is hard to find those kind of people where I currently live. I definitely took for granted the time I had with friends in college. Piece of advice for those still in college and high school: Enjoy every minute you have with your friends now, because that time does not last forever.

See ya!
