New Section Coming Soon!

Hey guys,

So, as I mentioned in my previous post, I love to read! I decided to embark on a challenge starting July first to read 52 books (that is one a week) from July 1 2012- July 1, 2013. I have five books on my list. That is only enough to get me through the first month.

If you have any good recommendations that fall under these categories please let me know!

~ Food
~ Eating In as opposed to Eating out
~ Green Living
~ Hiking
~Climbing
~ Wilderness
~ Living our your Christianity
~ Knitting
~ Crocheting (I want to attempt to learn how to crochet I think)
~ Urban gardening
~ Whole foods
~ handmade

Or if you have great suggestions that don’t fall into those categories, I would love to hear those too!
Those just tend to be what I am inclined to lately, but I would love any suggestions!
I am going to put up another page starting July 1st of my reading list (or what I have compiled already) and then after I finish each book I will post my thoughts and maybe even challenges that I got from the book!

Thanks!

Soakin’ Up the Sunshine

Well hello hello,

When I left you last I was getting ready to go on a vacation with my hubby and my in-laws to the wonderful Outer Banks, NC. I said that I was going to post while I was there, but to be honest, I was having so much fun and just enjoying being away from my everyday life that I kind of forgot and kind of just decided I would post when I get back.

It was just a wonderful vacation! TJ and I both desperately needed it before this huge move coming up in just over three weeks. We needed to take that deep breath before the plunge. It was great! We both feel extremely refreshed personally, as well as in our relationship with each other, and our relationship with our Maker too. We had both just gotten so tired lately that we hadn’t had time to focus on us and the things that we loved about each other and we also got time to focus on how amazing The Creator is as we watched the huge waves and the clouds and the rain and the lightning and the thunderstorms. Seriously, it was an amazing week!

However, a week is a long time and a lot happened in that week! So, we have a lot to catch up on here. Let’s dive in and see!

We got there in the afternoon on Sunday. It was a gorgeous day! We got to the house, got settled into our rooms. Our room had this huge bathtub. We currently do not have a bathtub and I love taking baths so seeing this huge tub just made my day already. Haha! After taking a nice leisurely soak, TJ and I decided to head down to the beach before dinner. We love the OBX and it was just so relaxing to listen to the waves and hold hands with my hubby as we walked along the beach. We thought it would be cute to take a picture with our backs to the waves. Well, the first one did not turn out so well.

Since we wanted our backs to the waves, that meant that the sun was in our face. I was definitely not enjoying that lol.
The second picture on the other hand was much better!

I somehow managed to suck it up long enough to get a decent picture! Yay!

The rest of the night was spent eating dinner and enjoying a relaxing evening at the house! It was just beautiful there!
I spent some time relaxing by the pool in the backyard!

Monday was our 1 year anniversary. We got to spend our 1 year in our honeymoon location and we were just thrilled about that! We went out for lunch at our favorite local Italian place right across the street from where we were staying. We both had the Italian Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. Oh My Word! That was seriously one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. It has some pesto along with the normal chicken cordon bleu and it was all on their homemade ciabatta bread. So delicious!
We thought this would be another perfect picture opportunity.

I got a new dress a Kohl’s just for our lunch, and it ended up being perfect for other days at the beach too lol. You also get a glimpse of the blonde on one of the sides of my head. It is on both sides and the neckline too. I had to pull my bangs back because otherwise, with the wind at the beach and the top down on the jeep they were getting blown all over the place and sticking up in strange positions.

We spent the afternoon shopping around the little shops right there by the restaurant. We have this favorite little shop called “Try My Nutz”. They have all kinds of flavored peanuts, cashews, pecans, etc. I got the Butta Toasted Cashews. So delicious! We went into this one jewelry shop called The Mystic Jewel and they had this one sterling silver starfish ring that was just stunning. I loved it! But it was a little bit more than I usually pay for jewelry (usually no more than $10-$15) and so I decided to hold off and think about if I really wanted to get it. Well, we went back on Friday and it was gone. Someone had bought the last one at that store. I was told to go check the store in Duck because they might have one. I went back to the house a little sad but knew it happened. On our way out on Saturday morning, TJ persuaded me to stop at the Duck store and there it was, the last one they had! I made sure it fit and bought it right then and there. I love this ring!

Tuesday brought a cold rain into Corolla, which meant I did not want to go swimming in the ocean. The rest of the gang did not really want to go out into the ocean very much either. TJ and I thought it would be fun to take everyone up 4×4 country and see where we stayed for our honeymoon last year. It is about 11 miles up the beach road. It takes a good bit of time to get up there. The road is not smooth either, it is sand and that means bumps and sometimes splashes if you get a little close to the water. Even though it was rainy, it was just beautiful!

After coming back to Corolla, we headed on down to the outlets where we hung around for a while before dinner at Big Al’s. It was a nice relaxing chill day as we waited for the storm to roll through.

Wednesday was super cold because of the rain the previous day. There was no way I was getting in the water. It was freezing. So instead I built a sand jellyfish. I completely forgot to take pictures but it was pretty awesome not gonna lie. TJ built Delm’s Heep. It was not quite as grand as Helm’s Deep so he switched some letters around to make it his own lol.

Thursday finally brought some warmth! The water was getting warmer but still not enough that I wanted to get all the way in. Plus the waves were just huge. Dad came in and said that the waves were just knocking him about. This provided a nice opportunity to work on my chaco tan and my overall tan while reading, my favorite beach pastime. I definitely did not want to lay out in my chacos that much but if you are a true Chaco wearer, you must have a chaco tan and it is super hard for me to get a chaco tan unless I am super diligent about it because I just don’t tan so I gave in and laid out with shoes on.

Friday was awesome! It brought warm weather, warm water, and not so big waves! Yay! This is what I like when it comes to getting in the water. I got all the out and got soaked and had a blast playing in the waves. I finished reading my book and over all it was just a great last day at the beach. I could not have asked for a better ending to a much needed wonderful vacation.

After all my laying out, I finally have a visible Chaco tan! It took all week to get to this point but I got it!

Saturday was our travel day. I had one last stop (after the Mystic Jewel of course) that I wanted to make before we left the OBX. I had seen a store called The Knitting Addiction when we went to the outlets the other day. I did not have the opportunity to stop then so I had to stop on our way out of town. Oh My Word! It was just awesome!  So many different types of yarn and patterns and all kinds of other awesome doo-dads. I was in knitting heaven seriously! I only bought two 100% cotton skeins. But after finishing my friend’s dish cloths, it did not take me long to get those skeins onto my needles and into my Epic Blanket of Insanity. Here are the two skeins and the dish cloths.

A nice blue/purple multi-color. 🙂

And a nice bright multi-color that went right into the blanket right away! 🙂

Here are the finished dish cloths for my friend! She is great for helping support us move across the country! Take a look at my Help Us Move! page if you would like to help support us in our move to Colorado!

We had a great vacation! We both realized we would have no problem living and Lord willing maybe someday we will live there! Who knows? It was nice to enjoy the Atlantic Coast one last time for a while.

See ya!

Help us Move!

I do not know if people who follow my blog get updated when I post a new page or not? Anyway, I made a new page on my blog called Help Us Move! Money is just a bit tight to move across the country and we could really use your help in getting us there. I love to knit and love sharing with others what I knit. (Even if people don’t always feel the same way 😛  ). But I thought I would put my love for knitting to good use and would like to share these things with you in your home and in your life.

I am selling hats, bags and washcloths. You can check out my page for more information.

Thanks!

It has been a while hasn’t it…

Ok, so I haven’t posted in a while. Oops. I had three days off last week all right in a row. It was fantastic! I love having those days off and having nothing to except read, knit, watch goofy movies, and even pack a little. It was wonderful. I did exactly those things. I honestly felt so carefree, I love summer vacation. I love being done with my undergrad. I love life. Then the weekend came and I was busy at work, my husband was home and ended up getting sick and so blogging just did not happen.

This week, I have had yesterday and today off and I also have tomorrow off. I would’ve had an awesome week like last week, except…. I have had trouble getting my butt either off the bed or the couch. The horrible head cold that my husband had, he graciously passed it on to me. So, needless to say, there has been a lot of napping and doing absolutely nothing. I currently have a burst of energy so I’ve done some packing and cleaning but I am curious to see how long this burst is going to last.

So, since I have accomplished hardly anything in my days off this week, I want to show you what I accomplished in my days off last week! It was way too fun!

I already showed you the flowy skirt I made out of a dress. Pretty awesome!
Next I made a dishcloth:

I really liked this pattern so I decided to give it a whirl. Turned out great and I love the color!
Then I made TJ a not slouchy hat. I don’t have a picture of it on his head yet but I have the hat itself.

Image

It is a nice merino wool and will keep his head warm in Denver.

You already saw the first box of packing that I did. I am actually finishing up box number 4. Wow!

Now that I have some spare time again, I decided it was time to have fun with my hair again. It is still a work in progress but here we are at this juncture.
Image

There is blonde on both sides, and in the back. I am looking to put a little bit of blue in there at some point but it has been a long process lightening my reluctant brown hair. No worries, the lightener smells like blueberries, it is awesome!

Anyway, that was the progress I made last week. No such luck this week. It happens.

See ya!

Y is for yarn

I went and organized my yarn last night because I realized that my knitting projects were getting away all over the apartment. I felt bad for my husband because I literally have yarn and knitting projects everywhere! So, I organized and have come to realize I have a good amount of yarn.

I have grown especially fond of 100%cotton yarn. It is super comfortable and super lightweight and yet sturdy. I just love it!

I have one box that is just for my Epic Blanket of Insanity. It has all 100% cotton yarn and some merino wool yarn. I am going all organic with this blanket and loving every minute of it! I have found some amazing colors. You can see this pictured in my previous post. There will be more colors added to it too! Haha. I am honestly having so much fun with this blanket.

I also have another box that has more yarn that is for another project that is a secret for now. 😉  I will have pictures later and possible hints. However, it is not all organic yarn. It is predominantly acrylic. This project does not need to be all organic to serve its purposes. In order to get this project and my Epic Blanket done, I will have my hands busy knitting alot over the next several months. But the long ride to Denver will prove to be a great time to get some massive amounts of knitting done! It is coming so soon!!!! Yay!!!

Well, I am off to keep knitting.

Yes, I am aware I skipped x but I had no idea what to write. Haha!

See ya!

W is for Why I Blog

Ok, I know that this post is several days late but my weekend was super crazy! What with working, homework, internship, meetings, and more homework it was just a whirl of a weekend. But here is the post nonetheless.

So, I have had several friends ask me recently, why do I blog?

I gave them the typical vague answer of its fun. While that is definitely part of my answer, I think there is more to it than that. I blog for a lot of reasons.
One of them is that I love learning something new and sharing what I am learning with other people. I seriously love learning new knitting techniques, new climbing moves or techniques, new recipes, new places to visit, a better way to start a business, etc. I just love finding out how other people do things. So, not only am I learning but I love to share my findings with other people. I am not someone who can just keep something that I just figured out to myself. I am constantly telling my husband about a new recipe or a new technique I learned in knitting (poor TJ).

Another reason why I blog kind of goes along with the first one, it gives me an opportunity to find people with similar interests and who are much better at doing some things than I am. I can go and read their blogs and find out more about how they do certain things and learn from them. It provides me with such a wide variety of outlets to learn from that I love it!

I also love the community that comes with blogging. Fifteen to twenty years ago there was no blogging. We did not have this outlet to see how other people live their lives all around the world. We did not have this way of communicating with people we had never met in person. There are people that I have met through blogging that I would not have had any other chance of meeting. You really get to know all kinds of different people who lead different lives than you and that is just wonderful to me! I love meeting new people and hearing their stories and taking part in their lives and this is just one way that I can do that.

I also love to blog because it gives me a creative outlet to where I can share what I’m learning with who I am meeting, and I can also talk about current projects and life in general. It helps me get out some of my talking so that I do not keep my husband up too late talking about what I’m learning. Although, some days I start reading other peoples blogs and finding out more and more cool stuff and then those nights I feel bad because I do not shut up to my husband.

Blogging is just fun! It is a great outlet and a great way to meet new people and a great way to build a business. I would recommend blogging to just about everyone!

See ya!

P.S. Here is my progress on my Epic Blanket of Insanity

Its comin along!

K is for Knitting

Let’s be honest here. We all saw this coming for my K post. I am always talking about this project and that project and this yarn and that yarn, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I chose knitting to talk about today.

This one will be more pictures than anything lol. I love knitting. It keeps my mind from wandering off and getting lost in an abyss. It also keep my hands busy so I don’t always feel like I have to get up and do something. It can be very relaxing, very stressful, very therapeutic, very annoying. You name, I have probably felt that way about knitting at some point in my knitting journey. I just love making things with my hands and knitting is one of my favorite ways to do so!

My current stash of yarn, needles and a how to book.

That wasn’t even including the yarn I have already on current projects. hehehe.
My current projects: a tote bag and a shawl

And then we have some of my finished projects. Several hats (although not all are here) and a blanket. I’ve done scarves too.

So, needless to say, I think I rather enjoy knitting a lot.

See ya!
