November 18 (belated): Hairstyles I am Loving

I am a girl who usually changes her hair pretty regularly. Although, lately I have been feeling a little uninspired. I haven’t changed or even cut my hair in over a year! How crazy is that?! I really do need to go get it cut. I just can’t quite decide what I really want to do! As you can see by my inspirations, they are kind of all over the board! If you want to see more hairstyles that I just absolutely love or want to try, check out my Hairstyles Pinterest Board.

November 17(belated): What I Love About Winter

Winter is honestly one of my favorite seasons! Growing up as a California girl, I never thought I would say that. I am still a beach bum at heart but I love winter! I really really do! There are so many things to love!

~ Snow! How can you not like snow?! I mean if you don’t ski or like to be outside I can see why you don’t like snow. I am not one of those people. I love to ski and play outside with my huskies in the snow! I love hiking in the snow. (Not ice) It is so beautiful and light and fluffy! It makes everything look so magical! I cannot get enough of it. I was ready for snow in July. I am such a weirdo.

~ The smells. Wintertime brings with it all the Christmas smells. Cinnamon, pine, frosting, firewood, wool, snow. All of them are such great smells! Wintertime is baking season in our house. TJ bakes more bread and more cookies. I bake pastries and occasionally another dessert. I tend to leave the baking to him! 😛 The smells are just so comforting!

~ Christmas! I am obsessed with Christmas! I love it a lot. I have been desperately trying to behave and not put out Christmas decorations too early or listen to Christmas music too early. It has been so hard! I love them so much! I love putting up a Christmas tree! The songs, the movies, the presents. I love giving gifts! Remembering the real reason for the season! Its all wonderful!

This year I am aiming to not be so stressed out during the holiday season. I am still in retail and that will make it difficult but I am aiming to end the year as stress free as possible!

Enjoy this season! Don’t stress about it!

See ya!

November 16 (belated): Chocolate Is Essential

I love chocolate. I may have mentioned how much I like chocolate in the last post. My husband is also in the process of making chocolate chip cookies. He spoils me and is no good for my waistline. Lol! But honestly, chocolate is essential to life and happiness. I am not talking scientifically. I am talking emotionally at least for me.

Eat Chocolate:

~ It is sweet and delicious! Yummy yum yum! There is nothing quite like the flavor of chocolate.

~ It gives a little high after you eat it. A temporary mood booster! Gotta love chocolate!

~ It isn’t too sweet! Some of the regular movie candies or hard candies or soft candies can be way too sweet. Chocolate on the other hand is perfectly sweet without being overbearing. You can even put things in the chocolate to make it a little more savory as well.

~ Its comforting. Ok, well this may just be a me thing or even a woman thing but chocolate is so comforting in times of grief or sadness or pain. I don’t know what it is.

What is your favorite chocolate?

See ya!

November 15 (belated): Things I Wish I Was Better At

In case you guys haven’t heard, I am no savant. I am no genius. I really just am not great at a pretty decent amount of things. Now before you get all, “Ashley, don’t be so hard on yourself.” I am not being a Debbie Downer here. Just being honest. I have my faults just like everyone else! There are things I am halfway decent at and there are things I am not. It happens. Welcome to life!

Things I Wish I Was Better At:

~ Eating healthy. I am terrible at eating healthy. I am currently sitting here eating Moose Munch which is caramel corn and chocolate cover caramel corn mixed together. I love me some chocolate and I love me some caramel. I have a major sweet tooth which I try to subdue with berries or other fruit as often as I can but honestly, I just love sweets! I also love salt. Lots and lots of it! I have gotten better about not eating as much but I still just love it!

~ Working out. Or even just being more active. I would much rather just sit on the couch and watch Gilmore Girls while eating Ice Cream. You feel me? Why can’t that be exercising? Why can’t you burn more calories reaching for the remote? I mean for real, I just think we should work on that.

~ Cleaning the house. I am not bad at picking things up, such as laundry to put in the hamper. But honestly, I am terrible at vacuuming and dusting and mopping. I do not enjoy it so I avoid it as long as possible. Being married has made me try a little harder but TJ doesn’t mind so oftentimes he will get to it before I do.

~ Cooking. My food doesn’t taste terrible. I mean some recipes have just not worked out, but the majority has been relatively delicious. I mean I am terrible at mustering up the energy to make food. (Remember the couch scenario from above?) I just do not want to make food sometimes! I would much rather sit on my bum than stand in the kitchen and prepare a meal after working all day.

What do you wish you were better at?

See ya!

November 14 (belated): Why You Should Keep Lists

It is very hard for me to remember things. I get so scatter brained sometimes. Lists are wonderful! It helps keep me on track! It helps me focus on getting done what I need to get done and not lose focus or get sidetracked. I love them!

Why You Should Keep Lists

~ They help you stay focused! They give you something tangible to look at instead of a million different things pulling at you at any given time.

~ You get to mark them off! Growing up, my mom gave us chore charts to do. We got to mark them off with stickers when we were done with the chore. Maybe that is where this all started, I don’t know. All I know is I get a little thrill out of marking things off when I am done with them. I don’t use stickers any more. However, I do often times use highlights or sharpies. I love the bright colors! They are fun and more exciting that just marking them out with a plain black marker or pen.

~ It gets things out of your head. When I write things down, it is kind of a clearing of space in my brain. It isn’t bothering me any more. It isn’t constantly nagging. I may not have gotten it done yet but at least is on the list and it will get done. I won’t forget about it. I will mark it off. It is kind of a relief knowing that it isn’t sitting there waiting in my brain, knowing I will forget about it.

~They help you achieve your goals! Big goals have to be broken down into one step at a time. If you write down those little steps on your to-do list, you are that much closer to getting your big goal done! It is much less overwhelming and you can actually achieve what you were hoping to achieve.

20141117_153640

I keep this notebook pretty handy all the time. It has my to-do list, most of the time my grocery list, my Christmas list, you name it it is probably in there. I love it! It really helps my brain not be so overwhelmed.

You should keep lists too! They are fun!

See ya!

November 13 (belated): Reasons to Marry Young

This might open a can of worms but oh well. I got married young. I got married a week and a half before my 21st birthday. In an age when most people are waiting to get married, I knew that wasn’t what I was looking for. I didn’t know that before I turned 21 was going to be when I got married but I definitely knew I did not want to wait until my late 20s. Getting married later is definitely prudent for some people. Some people just are not ready for marriage that early. I’m an older soul, I knew I was ready for it. I am extremely happy I did too! I would not have it any other way. We have been married for 3 years and it has been the best 3 years of my life! He has made me so happy and we have helped each other grow so much! I love it!

~ More time together before you feel the need for kids. TJ and I are 24, we both have plenty of time to have kids. Having been married 3 years already without kids has been wonderful! We have gotten some solid just us time. We have taken trips that we could not afford with kids. We have made a move across the country that would have been way more difficult and maybe less likely if we had kids. I am just also coveting this time where it is just us. I don’t want to share him with anyone else for a bit longer. Its really nice.

~ Someone by your side at all times. Some people love to be independent and go off and do their own thing. Totally cool. I get that. I also love to be independent and do my own thing. But I also desperately want someone to share that with. I don’t want to have all these great experiences by myself. I want to share life with someone. I want my best friend by my side all the time. I have that and I love it so much!

~ Dual income. I am not gonna lie to you. I went straight from my parents house to college to marriage. I did not do the whole apartment by myself or with roommates thing. I don’t think I would have had the patience. I like my space. I like my house a certain way most of the time. Plus having to afford it, I would have struggled. Both of us working full time means having some fun spare money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. It is quite lovely. I know this is not true for everyone. We are both very conscious about our money and that doesn’t apply to everyone but having the dual income is way less stressful I think than just the one.

~ Someone to grow up with. This can be a good and a bad thing. For us, it turned out to be a good thing. We were both young and still had/have some growing up to do. But navigating these waters together has only brought us closer. I would not be as strong of a woman today if TJ had not been by my side this whole time. I would not be able to handle the different situations that life has thrown at me if TJ was not there. We still do stupid things that hurt each other but we are growing through those situations.

~ Not as much heartache. Now some people who get married young don’t stay married. I don’t believe that will be TJ and I. We are both dedicated for the long haul. But TJ and I were each others first for everything. Boyfriend, girlfriend, kiss, intimacy. We both were interested in other people and had some more casual relationships or semi-relationships with people but nothing serious until each other. We didn’t have to wade through heartache after heartache to find each other. I am so grateful and feel so blessed for that! I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Time to go hang with my man now that I’ve gotten all mushy!

See ya!

November 12 (belated): Reasons NOT to Have Huskies

So, while I say that Huskies are wonderful, they also are not great sometimes. They have their quirks. I mean that is just like any dog you know? Huskies can just be way more intense about their quirks than some dogs.

Reasons NOT to Have Huskies

~ They are crazy! Like seriously insane. Faelyn at four and a half is just now finally starting to calm down. If you do not get them out, they will get destructive. They are a high energy dog and need to be taken out regularly. They really must live in an active lifestyle.

~ They are very independent. If you give them a command they will often look at you and think “that sounds like a good idea, but let me see if that fits in with my plan.” They like to do what they want to do, not always what you want them to do.

~ They are extremely smart. This is great sometimes but sometimes they are just too smart for their own good. They will get in trouble in ways that you never expected they would. They get into things you didn’t think they knew what it was.

~ They like to run. And I mean run. When they escape from an enclosed space they pick one direction and just keep on running. It takes a lot to get them back. We often have to bribe our boys with car rides. We pull up alongside them and ask them if they want to go for a ride. That is the only way that we can get them to come home.

~ They can be highly destructive. HIGHLY. Most of the time most people don’t understand that a husky is not your typical family dog. They are not great to just be left inside. They need attention and running or hiking or just getting out and exercising. They are a working dog. They make wonderful family dogs if you are a very active family. If not, don’t get one. You will be so upset with this dog all the time. You have to keep them active otherwise they get cabin fever and destroy things.

So, when you think about getting a Husky, please keep both of these posts in mind and make sure you are getting the right fit for your family as well as for them!

See ya!

November 11 (belated): Reasons to Have Huskies

I love my two huskies more than anything (except maybe my husband ;P ). I don’t think everyone should have them. They are their own special breed. You have to have the right dynamic to have huskies. Anyway, that is for the next post. But here are the reasons they are awesome!

~ They are crazy! I know I know most people don’t think that is a great reason to have a dog. But I love their spastic crazy personalities. They have so much personality.
(btw not my photo but so stinking hilarious and true) My boys would definitely try something like this.
1796553_10151846920846651_1769019929_n

~They have amazingly beautiful eyes! Bright blue or even mismatched colors!
This is my little man, his eyes are so bright and blue, I love it!

527569_836065670811_337772036_n

~They sleep in the most hilarious positions!
These are just a few of the positions I have caught both of them in.

~They are pack dogs. This means they are extremely loyal. Not only to each other but to their owners as well. It is a great trait that I wouldn’t trade for the world. That doesn’t mean they have to be by your side at all times because they are still insanely independent.

I love having huskies! I don’t think I would want any other breed. They are wonderful!

Down in the Dumps

Not gonna lie guys, I have been feeling a little down in the dumps lately. Feeling super run down with work and just not inspired at all with where I am at in life. I have dreams and aspirations but I really just feel like I am going nowhere with them. I really feel stuck in retail, which is definitely not where I want to be. I think my husband feels the same way. So you have two peeps who are feeling stuck, that doesn’t exactly ignite any kind of passion in marriage either lol. Not to say that things are dying, it just isn’t steaming passion at the moment. It happens. There are periods of abundance and drought in every relationship, whether it is marriage, friendship or even family.

But anyway, back to my main topic of thought today. I want to work and do something I am passionate about. I love talking with people and sharing info or tidbits or just revelations in day to day life. I mean I have been at this blog for about two and half years now. How crazy is that?! I honestly love it! I love seeing peoples lives and I love sharing my own. I love writing! I really do. I write a lot. I journal on my own. I write here. I have random little notes all over the place in my house. It is kind of ridiculous. I truly think that writing is good for the soul. I think it gets things out and who knows, can sometimes lead to wonderful things.

I have seen this Passion Planner pop up on Facebook multiple times this week and I have watched her video and read a little bit about her. It is wonderful! I think it is a great idea. Such a great way for some inspiration.

Watch the video!

I hope that gives you and I some inspiration for the day!

November 10 (belated): Reasons Why Winter In Denver Is Great

Denver is known for its snow. Whenever someone thinks of a terrible winter, they often think of Denver or Minnesota or Alaska. Winter in Denver is not all that bad. See, where it sticks around on the East Coast because the sun rarely comes out in the winter time, Denver has over 300 days of sunshine. 300 days of sunshine means sure we might get a pretty decent amount of snow, but it doesn’t stick around too too long. The sun comes out and melts it. Its lovely.

Anyway, here is why Denver is awesome in the winter!

~ It snows! ( I love snow, we just got our first snow of the season!)
~ It melts quickly! (Even better, not too much ice!)
~ It snows again! (Yay snow!)
~ It melts again!
~ The mountains keep their snow, so amazing skiing! (Skiing is my favorite activity!)

I would say those are pretty great reasons for winter in Denver! The mountains are beautifully snowcapped while Denver’s snow is melting and making driving easier. You should come visit at least once. Doesn’t matter the season, they are all wonderful here in Beautiful Colorado!

See ya!
