Ski Season Be Almost Upon Us

Alrighty guys, the mountains here are getting more and more snow-capped. You know what that means?! Ski season is almost here! I am oh so ready for the season to start! I spent the first hour and a half of my shift at work this morning trying on Ski boots at work. I found the pair that I think I want to get. So sweet!

But anyway, to get all of you guys excited for ski season, here is the trailer for an all girls ski movie that is going to be awesome!

I cannot wait to see the whole thing! I also just cannot wait to get out on the mountain this season!

Time to Stop Avoiding

Alrighty, well I have really been avoiding the blog lately because I keep saying, Oh I need to post about Hawaii. That task just seems so daunting right now lol. We took so many pictures and did so many things that it seems like such a monster to tackle. I am not sure how I feel about tackling said monster at this point. So, instead of avoiding the blog I am just going to continue blogging. Fun things happen everyday and I miss talking with you guys! Hawaii will come, I do promise that. I am just not quite sure at what time. First thing to do is find the SD card with all the pictures. I think I might have misplaced it. Oops!

We are now into the month of October! Yay! I am so happy and ready for all of the fall weather and fashions. Not gonna lie, the more layers the better! Love it! I have made my first pumpkin chocolate chip bread of the season. So yummy! I got the recipe here. You should definitely give it a shot! It was a hit at the little friend gathering I went to as well, so it wasn’t just me munching away at this deliciousness! Are you guys excited about the changing weather as well? Or is that just a me thing?

Also, we have snowcapped mountains now! I love the Colorado mountains all year long, but they are especially beautiful when they are snowcapped. When it is sunrise, the sun reflects off of them often in pink and purple colors that just cannot be beat. Seeing the snow up there means that some of the ski mountains will be starting their season soon. That is music to my ears! We have started getting our ski gear in at work and I could not be happier. It is giving me the itch to get out there and “shred some gnar”.

Cooler weather means Faelyn and I get out a little more. It is so hard to take a husky outside when it is blazing hot. But we are now going hiking a couple times a week. That keeps him from getting destructive as is the tendency of bored huskies. I love seeing all the colors and getting a good cardio session in at the same time. You just cannot go wrong with a good hike!

Well, I’m off to enjoy this beautiful weather! Hope your fall is starting off awesome!

See ya!

July, Where Have You Gone?!

Wow, I can’t believe it is already the middle of July! I feel like I just had my birthday yesterday and it has already been over a month! What?! Work has been keeping me busy and such I guess.

To be honest, I am ready for July to be over and August lol. I am ready for the hot weather to go away! I never thought I would say that. I used to be a girl who lived for the warm weather. Then I got huskies and I got older I guess and realized it is just way too hot in the summertime. I love me some spring and fall and especially winter weather! Oh man, who is ready for ski season already?! This girl!!! I feel like I did not get to ride my skis nearly as much as I would have liked to last year.

But before this warm weather ends, I have a huge trip that I want to take first. We have huge news guys! We are going to Hawaii!!! We are going at the end of August! Its our first big trip apart from our honeymoon and without family. Its crazy! I am super excited! I’ve never been and I may not come back! Lol! Although, Colorado is amazingly beautiful! I think Hawaii is going to be super pretty too!

I got a pretty nice scrape on my knee last week mountain biking. Not going to lie I have been pretty proud of it. Lol. It just shows at least to me that I have been pushing a lot harder than I was and that is something I feel like I can be proud of. I am loving mountain biking. I think I found a good alternative during the summer months when I am not skiing. Good thing I am not going for world’s sexiest legs though lol.

How is your summer going? Any big trips? Any fun stories thus far?

See ya!

Life Is Never Mundane in My House

Oh man, so our house has been turned upside down yet again. We have a different roommate moving in tomorrow! Well, I mean she has already moved the majority of her stuff in but she is still sleeping at her current place tonight. But with her comes 2 dogs and 2 cats. Lol! There will be six fury animals in my house!

When TJ and I bought this house, we knew that we wanted two bedrooms in case we had friends who needed a place to crash or we had company. Little did we know how much God would use us to help others out in this regard. TJ and I have always talked about how we want to use what God has blessed us with, to bless others. We have seen too many people be too comfortable while their friends are struggling. We have always felt strongly about this and have never hesitated to share our blessings. It always makes for a great experience and a great way to pay it forward.

In other exciting news, I accidentally ran over my front bike tire with my jeep. Not a pleasant experience. Took it in to our shop guys at work and ended up having to order a new rim. Like I said, never a dull moment.

Still desperately trying to kick this cold. It is wanting to hang on for dear life. I am feeling mostly better except for in the mornings. It seems to be worse then. But if I am not better by Monday, I am going to go see a doc. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Oh oh oh, I totally forgot! I took a spill mountain biking the other day! I know, most of the time that is not something that most people would be excited about but I am totally excited! Lol! I went and tried something slightly more technical that what I have been doing and ended up losing my balance at the last second and really scraped up my leg and my arm. Nothing worth going to the hospital for but it was something to show for trying a little harder! I was kind of proud of myself in that moment. Lol!

Anyway, dinner has arrived and my husband is finally home!

See ya!

Here It Comes

Alright, so there is only a couple days until the first 30 Day Challenge starts! I’ll admit, I’m a little nervous just about trying to keep up with them throughout the year. I know it will be so good for my writing but at the same time, life gets so busy apart from this blog. But I am determined! I am also such a people pleaser that the thought of even letting myself down by not keeping up is often times enough to keep me on track. Lol! Please stay tuned to see the awesomeness that is coming along with these blog post challenges! Feel free to keep up too!

On another challenge note, I started that reading challenge a year and a half ago. I have realized how hard it is to read that much. Lol! But I do have another book review coming up soon! I am almost done with this book so you will have to wait and see what it is!

I have a winter sport that I love dearly. Skiing really energizes me and it is so wonderful to ski with my hubby! It is something we really really connect on. Well, I was looking for a summer sport too because as much as I like hiking, it really is not all that exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I love taking my pup, well now pups, out there and enjoying the beauty of nature as well as taking pictures but I wanted something a little more aerobic as well as something a little more exciting! So, over the last two days I have been giving this mountain bike a try. It has only been on some well kept trails and service roads but we are going to be hitting a more fun trail here pretty soon! I think this is definitely going to be my new summer sport. I had so much fun yesterday on our 12.5 mile ride. It was so great to get out with an awesome group of people and get my cardio up as well as doing something fun! I can’t wait to go out again! Unfortunately, we were having so much fun that I may or may not have forgotten to take a picture lol! Next time for sure.

Here comes the challenges!

See you soon!

The Month of February Has Begun

I can’t believe that the shortest month of the year has already started AND that we are already four days into it!!! How crazy is that?! I feel like sometimes life just goes by so quickly. It was two months ago that I said I was going to try and take the month of December a little slower and enjoy the holidays. We all know how that turned out. Although life is going by super quick as it usually does, I have been taking time to enjoy things over the past month or so. After reading The Happiness Project (I know, I know I really should stop talking about it. ) I really wanted to change things to enjoy life a little more. Some small, some daily, some a little more daring, but mostly just being able to say no.

I realized I was saying yes to things that I did not particularly enjoy or things that really did me no good. In January, our membership to the rock climbing gym expired. We decided to let it expire. We did not want to renew because we realized we weren’t using it. At first, we were both really torn. We felt like we should renew but we did not really want to. After it expired, we had a little money to ski. That monthly membership fee was no longer coming out and that freed up a little bit of play money. Then we found out we had free skiing at a mountain not too far. Oh man, we have gone skiing at least once a week for the past month. Amazing! It was such a great decision. Not only am I happier but I am getting out more and being way more active than I was with the gym membership. So that being sad, we will be social rock climbers but it is not something that we are desperately pushing for. I said no to something that was just nagging at my brain and said yes to my favorite activity ever! So much happier!

I also started saying no to so many sweets and sodas. I love soda. It really is a weakness for me. One of the resolutions I made this year was to avoid soda 3 times a week. I thought to myself, this should be a piece of cake. No way. I did not realize how much I love soda until I started cutting it out of my diet. This has been the hardest resolution for me to keep. There have been times when all I want is to drink a soda! But I am in week 4 of my resolutions and so far so good! I have managed to avoid soda twice this week so only one more day and its only Tuesday! I know it may not seem like a lofty goal but I find it better to start small and incorporate it into life that try and go cold turkey because then I just get frustrated.

Another thing that I gleaned from the book that shall not be named is she did resolutions each month. She focused on an area each month and worked on it. I have decided to attempt that for February as least. I don’t know if it will continue into the rest of the months but this month it will happen. The rooms that I live in day in and day out tend to get really cluttered and messy. That is only 5 rooms (not counting the basement or Matt’s room) that I need to focus on. I want to de-clutter this place. I want to focus on eliminating items that I don’t use or use up items I forget about and buy something similar in place of. I want less things to end up cluttering up my bedroom floor and to be able to breathe easy after a brief clean-up at the end of the day. So, February is de-clutter month in the Parnell household. I am sure you will hear about my victories and failures throughout or at least at the end.

Anyway, off to look for a car!

See ya!

A Day of Catching Up

I always love Sundays. Lately, TJ has had to work all day on Sundays and so it has become my day to catch up on life from the previous week or weeks. Lol. I will admit, not nearly as easy as it sounds. I realize that I let alot of things go when I get busy throughout the week. I don’t make dinners as much. I don’t do as much laundry or the dishes. I don’t read as much. I don’t knit as much. I don’t work on projects that I have been wanting to do for awhile. It just gets pushed to the side. So, Sunday has become the day I get to focus on the things that I want or need to focus on. Not necessarily errands or anything. Those I can do on my way home from work each day. No, this is stuff that I don’t usually have time to think about during the week. It helps me start my week off on the right track.

It is a day of productivity. A day of rejuvenation. A day where I feel like me the most. I day when I can take things at my pace and get things done the way I want to get things done. I love it. I woke up with a sense of purpose this morning and it was awesome.

I feel like I’m rambling. But today, I got up and did some reading. I borrowed a whole bunch of books from my brother so I am desperately trying to read them. Lol. Then I took Faelyn and we went for a walk/jog this morning. It was a beautiful day, so I had to get outside. I did not run as much as I wanted because I slammed my right knee into a handhold yesterday while climbing in the gym. But I was able to get it moving again and that was good.

I have come to realize I am a little heavier than I would like to be. I also tried on some dresses last night and wasn’t thrilled with my current state as shown in the mirror. So, hence the reason for going out today. I also downloaded the MyFitnessPal App to work in conjunction with the RunKeeper App. That way I know my calorie intake as well as how much I am running. I will most likely really start focusing on that tomorrow. But I am determined to get back in shape. I have been looking at healthier options for food too. I have a really bad sweet tooth as well I just love food! So, I want to find a way to be healthy about it. So here goes my journey!

TJ and I have the day off together again tomorrow. I think we might go hike around the Flat Irons near Boulder and spend the day up there. Should be fun! Gotta keep both of us active! I miss date days with my man, so that should be great tomorrow!

I also really need to work on my halloween costume for work! I can’t believe it is only a couple days away.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

See ya!

We are (mostly) Moved In!!!

Hey guys,

I know that it has been a while since I have posted. But as I have mentioned many times over, my hubby, my puppy, and I have all packed up, said good-bye to the East Coast and rode off into the sunset as we started our new adventure in Aurora (currently), Colorado! Well, we are here in our new apartment. We moved in on Saturday and first priority was dishes (so we could have breakfast the next morning) and the bed. After that, we took some time to just check out our surroundings. Since then, we have gotten most of our belongings unpacked. There are just a couple boxes of books and my grandmother’s dishes that just do not have a home yet. So, even though our house is in a bit of disarray, I thought I would give you a quick tour and thank everyone for their prayers and support as we ventured out here.

Here is my kitchen! It is nice to have a full size fridge and a dishwasher and more counter space than I was working with before. We have definitely enjoyed using the space in this kitchen already.

Here is our dining room, we are on the look-out for a cheap (yet sturdy) dining room table, so thus we have been eating elsewhere at the moment.

Also on the look-out for a couch and bookshelves. No biggie. We were improvising with the crash-pads as our make-shift couch yesterday lol.

I did take the time to decorate my mantle though lol. My bottles with coffee in the bottom and some candles, our unity rock, and some lights. This picture honestly does not do justice of how cute it is.

The bedroom. You can’t see it, but we did get a new bed frame from IKEA that has drawers in the bottom. We love it already lol. Also, one lamp we got at IKEA as well. We intend to get another one, just haven’t picked it up yet.

There is also plenty of room in the bedroom for the tv and some shelving.

Ok, so it would not let me rotate the picture, but we have a nice walk-in closet. Love having the space in there. I have yet to do laundry as you can tell there lol. Don’t mind the pile.

Also unable to rotate this one,  but we have a nice little bathroom vanity area.

I have a full tub!!! I cannot wait to take a bath in it! Having room to shave my legs and just shower without bumping into the walls in definitely nice.

Here is our front door. We are on the bottom floor and our neighbors upstairs and really all around us are quiet and clean. It is nice to not have to worry or get annoyed with neighbors for their noise or trash or what have you. It was definitely something I was worried about.

And there we are, 107. 🙂

We are definitely enjoying exploring a new area and really a new way of life for the three of us. We have found our favorite grocery store already. It is called Sprouts and is a natural/organic grocery store. Their produce is inexpensive and honestly phenomenal. We have more produce in our fridge than we ever did in Altoona, and we are eating it and loving it.
We have explored several of the shopping malls in the area. Its fun to check out stores that I have seen online and can now look at in person.
We have checked out the store we will be working in and met with the boss who is super chill. We also checked out the Denver flagship store which is amazingly cool. TJ will probably get to work there on a regular basis.

We have also come to realize that when we do buy a house in the coming months that we need to move more westward, toward Littleton/Englewood area so that not only can we be closer to work but also closer to some state parks and some mountains.

The weather has been in the 70’s and 80’s and our boss says it is the norm, so I’ll take it. We have had thunderstorms the majority of the days we have been here which always makes me happy.

Overall, we love it here and are coming to the conclusion that we may never leave.

See ya!
