Well, here we are, the end of another year. 2016 comes to an end tonight. I can’t say that I’m sad to see it go. I’m ready for the fresh start that 2017 is going to bring.
How about you?
Are you done with 2016?
Or was it a great year for you?!
Either way, I hope that 2017 brings lots of love, laughter, sugar, spice and everything nice!
I am also one of those people who really love New Year’s resolutions. I know, I know, most of the time they don’t actually happen. I enjoy trying to make it happen though and am always hopeful for the coming year!
Here are just a few of what I am hoping for in 2017:
~ Read more: My reading habits have dwindled lately and it is time to fix that!
~ Ski more: I want to ski more this year! I want to explore the backcountry more too. Skiing is the thing that I love doing the most!
~Picture a day: I want to see more around me and I want to enjoy and share those with around me!
~ Explore More: I want to see more and do more and go to places that I have never been to!
Those are just a few!
What are you hoping to pursue in 2017?
Let’s make 2017 awesome!
I have kept up with my running guys! Today was a little harder of a run than usual. I was feeling supremely dehydrated and so was TJ. We took a little easy for a bit of the run but I finished 2.5 miles strong. I really pushed hard in the last stretch of my run! I know it is really gonna take some time but I am starting to feel just a wee bit stronger. I know I know, it has only been a couple days but i missed running a lot. It feels nice to get back out there and get running again.
I signed up for my first race too! I am going to be running the Jingle Bell Run here in Denver! Its Christmas theme and only a 5k! What more could I ask for in my first race?! I love Christmas and a 5k is great entry into training for some races!
Tonight though, I am taking it a little bit easier since I was feeling so dehydrated this afternoon on my run. Lots of water!
I have a good book, a little bit of How I Met Your Mother, and lots and lots of water!
What is your favorite way to relax after a harder run?
Let’s hear it!
It is summer time and I wish I could say the living is easy. Life has been so hectic lately. I honestly don’t even know where the month of June went. Next thing I knew, it was July. I traveled in June, celebrated a birthday (yay me), had family in town, and did lots of working. I have had some time to spend outside. That has been quite lovely! Although, it has also been insanely warm. Not so lovely. I have already said to TJ on multiple occasions how ready I am for it to be fall and winter. I’m ready for chillier nights, warm drinks, sweaters, skiing. I’m ready to not be baking in my own bed every time I go to sleep.
Anyway, enough of me ranting. Nobody likes to read that at least for too long.
Let’s see, what news do I have to share…
Matt has moved back in to our house. Yay! He is less stressed and we enjoy having him and his lovely little lady dog Korra. She is such a cutie and already considers herself part of the pack.
TJ will be working his last shift at REI this coming Saturday. He will move on to work at a smaller retailer store where I think he will be much happier.
I am actively seeking new work. I am really looking for some virtual assistant work where I can spend a little more time at home with my boys and have a more flexible schedule as well. Finding that kind of work is a lot harder than it looks.
Faelyn and Halo are doing great! They do not want to be outside too much now that it is hot. I can’t even imagine how hot it must be having all of that hair!
Right now I am reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. It is a really weird but interesting read.
We are in the middle or rather nearing the end of watching through Scrubs. If you haven’t watched it, its hilarious.
We have finally found a church and are settled in there! So happy to have a church family now!
I think that about sums up everything that is currently going on!
Until next time,
Sorry this one is so late guys! I have had a crazy hectic day, scratch that, a crazy hectic week! The girl we had living with us moved out and my in-laws are coming into town next week. Then you add work and everything else with life. Oh man, life is crazy! Am I right?
That being said, I use the term “reading” loosely. I only get so much time for reading right now but I am kind of in the middle of three of them. I get distracted or semi-bored. I have ADD when it comes to books and music. I change radio stations constantly. It really bothers TJ lol. Anyway, I usually have at least two books going at one time. So many books, so little time is what they always say right?
Here are the 3 I am currently enjoying:
1~ It Starts With Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig (Its about nutrition and eating well.)
2~ The Art of Eating In by Cathy Erway (Its about cooking at home, and not eating out in New York.) I love this book!
3~ Academ’s Fury by Jim Butcher (Sci-Fi novel that is really really good! It is part of a series.)
What are you reading right now? Fiction? Non-Fiction?
Alrighty, well the day was beautiful today and I loved all the light coming in through my windows 🙂
I guess the shot is slightly different. But I like the natural lighting 🙂
Finally a post that is at least a little earlier, although considering I am about to hit the hay I guess it is still late for a post. Oh well, what can you do? 😛
You know it is a night home alone when this is what your night consists of. Lol! I may or may not have a reading problem. lol.
Alright, so I finished another what I would call a devotional. I had it going at the same time as the Checklist but just finished it later lol. This book is a great thought provoker. It provides a question at the beginning of each segment and then proceeds to talk about that question, gives mini stories, food for thought and a little prayer at the end. It really gets you in the mindset of getting out of your to-do list and focusing on whatever it is God wants you to focus on for your time together that morning or afternoon or whenever. At first I thought it was kind of cheesy, but then I really started to enjoy the book and seeing what God was putting on my heart this morning.
Pros: It is an easy read. It is thought provoking. It may have a little something for everyone. It helps get you in the mindset right away. It is a something new each day and not the same old same old.
Cons: It is a super easy read. It is only slightly challenging.
Overall, I really enjoyed adding those little tidbits to my morning devos. It was something that would help me think about things that I normally most likely would not even think to look at. It made me realize there are areas of my life I could work on and I had not even thought about them before. Kind of cool!
So, I just finished this devotional yesterday and since I am so far behind on my reading challenge I figured I might as well add this book to the list. It is called The Ultimate Checklist for Life. If you have been in the Christian circle for any length of time then you know about the Checklist for Life books. This one is a compilation of those books. It was on my bookshelf and I needed a new devotional to start so I went for it.
This one has 8 sections that it is compiled of:
1. Checklist for Life
2. Checklist for Life for Women
3. Checklist for Life for Men
4. Checklist for Life for Teens
5. Checklist for Life for Moms
6. Checklist for Life for Leaders
7. Checklist for Life for Graduates
8. Checklist for Life for Teachers
There were some sections that I did not particularly fall under but I read them anyway because we can all learn from different areas and experiences. I did however skip the men section. I did not really relate to some of those examples and whatnot.
Pros: It was a great day at a time devotional. It gave me something to think about each day. It was fairly relevant to my life in some ways. It was an easy read. It was not difficult to understand.
Cons: It was an easy read. It was kind of fluffy. It was super just surface Christianity without getting into the depth of Christianity. At times, it was kind of boring.
Overall, if you are just looking for something to add to your daily time with God, then this is a good option. However, if you are looking for something to take you deeper into your faith, this is not a good option for you. It is a topical book and not an in depth book. Good read but not for everyone’s current walk.
Stayed tuned for my March 1st post!
Alright, so there is only a couple days until the first 30 Day Challenge starts! I’ll admit, I’m a little nervous just about trying to keep up with them throughout the year. I know it will be so good for my writing but at the same time, life gets so busy apart from this blog. But I am determined! I am also such a people pleaser that the thought of even letting myself down by not keeping up is often times enough to keep me on track. Lol! Please stay tuned to see the awesomeness that is coming along with these blog post challenges! Feel free to keep up too!
On another challenge note, I started that reading challenge a year and a half ago. I have realized how hard it is to read that much. Lol! But I do have another book review coming up soon! I am almost done with this book so you will have to wait and see what it is!
I have a winter sport that I love dearly. Skiing really energizes me and it is so wonderful to ski with my hubby! It is something we really really connect on. Well, I was looking for a summer sport too because as much as I like hiking, it really is not all that exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I love taking my pup, well now pups, out there and enjoying the beauty of nature as well as taking pictures but I wanted something a little more aerobic as well as something a little more exciting! So, over the last two days I have been giving this mountain bike a try. It has only been on some well kept trails and service roads but we are going to be hitting a more fun trail here pretty soon! I think this is definitely going to be my new summer sport. I had so much fun yesterday on our 12.5 mile ride. It was so great to get out with an awesome group of people and get my cardio up as well as doing something fun! I can’t wait to go out again! Unfortunately, we were having so much fun that I may or may not have forgotten to take a picture lol! Next time for sure.
Here comes the challenges!
See you soon!
I had my morning devos this morning. I am so thankful that that is becoming more of a normal thing again. Having a cup of coffee and a quiet morning time in The Word is my favorite way to start the day. It really puts me at peace and centered for the rest of the day. I realize on the days I have spent time in the morning I am less critical and less stressed out at work or just in general. Whereas the days that I have not spent time in the morning, I am more critical of people around me and more on edge. So, getting that time is so necessary. This morning I was reading in my devotional book and came across this quote.
How you spend your time is more important than how you spend your money. Money mistakes can be corrected but time is gone forever.
David B. Norris
This was something I really started realizing this year. I was more focused on making money to pay off debt or what have you and not focusing on how I was spending my time. My relationships were not wonderful and my relationship with the Lord was definitely not great. I think that played a huge part in why I made resolutions this year. I want to make sure I am focusing on the right things in life. There is more to life than work and money.
I have still been keeping up with my de-cluttering in February. I went through my shirts which I realized I have a lot of. I got rid of a bunch and then started a “second chance pile” of shirts I had worn but it had been a while so I was willing to give them another chance. So far, 2 out of 3 have made it back into the drawer. I actually looked really good in those two lol! I have gotten some stuff out of my closet and my pantry and bedroom in general. I started tackling the mend pile next to my bed. So, it is going slowly but surely.
