Well, here we are, the end of another year. 2016 comes to an end tonight. I can’t say that I’m sad to see it go. I’m ready for the fresh start that 2017 is going to bring.
How about you?
Are you done with 2016?
Or was it a great year for you?!
Either way, I hope that 2017 brings lots of love, laughter, sugar, spice and everything nice!
I am also one of those people who really love New Year’s resolutions. I know, I know, most of the time they don’t actually happen. I enjoy trying to make it happen though and am always hopeful for the coming year!
Here are just a few of what I am hoping for in 2017:
~ Read more: My reading habits have dwindled lately and it is time to fix that!
~ Ski more: I want to ski more this year! I want to explore the backcountry more too. Skiing is the thing that I love doing the most!
~Picture a day: I want to see more around me and I want to enjoy and share those with around me!
~ Explore More: I want to see more and do more and go to places that I have never been to!
Those are just a few!
What are you hoping to pursue in 2017?
Let’s make 2017 awesome!
Alrighty guys, here is to the end of another year! 2014 has been good, I have a feeling 2015 will be better! I am super excited for what this coming year has to bring! I am super grateful for what this past year has offered!
It has been such a blessing to spend time with friends and loved ones! There have been ups and there have been downs, but all in all it has been a great year!
I went to Hawaii with my best friend!
Another amazing Husky came into my life!
I got to spend lots of time outside in this beautiful state!
I got to spend time with some amazing friends!
And the skiing has been great!
What more could a girl ask for?!
Hope you guys have an amazing New Year’s Eve! Stay safe!
See you next year my friends!
It’s one of my favorite months of the year! I love December! It has Christmas! It has my parents anniversary! It has my grandma’s birthday! Snow! Cookies! Christmas trees! Love! Family! I love love love it!
I have already started the month by doing something that I absolutely love! Ski! We had a wonderful day at Loveland Basin yesterday. What a better way to kick off the Christmas season?!
Why would you not want to ski there?! I mean for real?!
Anyway, I’m off. Today has been an unbelievably long day.
Alrighty guys, the mountains here are getting more and more snow-capped. You know what that means?! Ski season is almost here! I am oh so ready for the season to start! I spent the first hour and a half of my shift at work this morning trying on Ski boots at work. I found the pair that I think I want to get. So sweet!
But anyway, to get all of you guys excited for ski season, here is the trailer for an all girls ski movie that is going to be awesome!
I cannot wait to see the whole thing! I also just cannot wait to get out on the mountain this season!
Alrighty, well I have really been avoiding the blog lately because I keep saying, Oh I need to post about Hawaii. That task just seems so daunting right now lol. We took so many pictures and did so many things that it seems like such a monster to tackle. I am not sure how I feel about tackling said monster at this point. So, instead of avoiding the blog I am just going to continue blogging. Fun things happen everyday and I miss talking with you guys! Hawaii will come, I do promise that. I am just not quite sure at what time. First thing to do is find the SD card with all the pictures. I think I might have misplaced it. Oops!
We are now into the month of October! Yay! I am so happy and ready for all of the fall weather and fashions. Not gonna lie, the more layers the better! Love it! I have made my first pumpkin chocolate chip bread of the season. So yummy! I got the recipe here. You should definitely give it a shot! It was a hit at the little friend gathering I went to as well, so it wasn’t just me munching away at this deliciousness! Are you guys excited about the changing weather as well? Or is that just a me thing?
Also, we have snowcapped mountains now! I love the Colorado mountains all year long, but they are especially beautiful when they are snowcapped. When it is sunrise, the sun reflects off of them often in pink and purple colors that just cannot be beat. Seeing the snow up there means that some of the ski mountains will be starting their season soon. That is music to my ears! We have started getting our ski gear in at work and I could not be happier. It is giving me the itch to get out there and “shred some gnar”.
Cooler weather means Faelyn and I get out a little more. It is so hard to take a husky outside when it is blazing hot. But we are now going hiking a couple times a week. That keeps him from getting destructive as is the tendency of bored huskies. I love seeing all the colors and getting a good cardio session in at the same time. You just cannot go wrong with a good hike!
Well, I’m off to enjoy this beautiful weather! Hope your fall is starting off awesome!
I can’t believe that the shortest month of the year has already started AND that we are already four days into it!!! How crazy is that?! I feel like sometimes life just goes by so quickly. It was two months ago that I said I was going to try and take the month of December a little slower and enjoy the holidays. We all know how that turned out. Although life is going by super quick as it usually does, I have been taking time to enjoy things over the past month or so. After reading The Happiness Project (I know, I know I really should stop talking about it. ) I really wanted to change things to enjoy life a little more. Some small, some daily, some a little more daring, but mostly just being able to say no.
I realized I was saying yes to things that I did not particularly enjoy or things that really did me no good. In January, our membership to the rock climbing gym expired. We decided to let it expire. We did not want to renew because we realized we weren’t using it. At first, we were both really torn. We felt like we should renew but we did not really want to. After it expired, we had a little money to ski. That monthly membership fee was no longer coming out and that freed up a little bit of play money. Then we found out we had free skiing at a mountain not too far. Oh man, we have gone skiing at least once a week for the past month. Amazing! It was such a great decision. Not only am I happier but I am getting out more and being way more active than I was with the gym membership. So that being sad, we will be social rock climbers but it is not something that we are desperately pushing for. I said no to something that was just nagging at my brain and said yes to my favorite activity ever! So much happier!
I also started saying no to so many sweets and sodas. I love soda. It really is a weakness for me. One of the resolutions I made this year was to avoid soda 3 times a week. I thought to myself, this should be a piece of cake. No way. I did not realize how much I love soda until I started cutting it out of my diet. This has been the hardest resolution for me to keep. There have been times when all I want is to drink a soda! But I am in week 4 of my resolutions and so far so good! I have managed to avoid soda twice this week so only one more day and its only Tuesday! I know it may not seem like a lofty goal but I find it better to start small and incorporate it into life that try and go cold turkey because then I just get frustrated.
Another thing that I gleaned from the book that shall not be named is she did resolutions each month. She focused on an area each month and worked on it. I have decided to attempt that for February as least. I don’t know if it will continue into the rest of the months but this month it will happen. The rooms that I live in day in and day out tend to get really cluttered and messy. That is only 5 rooms (not counting the basement or Matt’s room) that I need to focus on. I want to de-clutter this place. I want to focus on eliminating items that I don’t use or use up items I forget about and buy something similar in place of. I want less things to end up cluttering up my bedroom floor and to be able to breathe easy after a brief clean-up at the end of the day. So, February is de-clutter month in the Parnell household. I am sure you will hear about my victories and failures throughout or at least at the end.
Anyway, off to look for a car!
Ok guys, so Thanksgiving has come and gone and yet I have not told you what I made for the big potluck meal that we had up at Arapahoe Basin!
I had pinned crockpot potatoes not too long before Thanksgiving, not really thinking about actually using the recipe this Thanksgiving!. But I did actually end up using it and it was delicious. Who would have thought that potatoes could be so good coming from the crockpot?!
The night before I had to work and so I did not get home until 9:30. That means the potatoes did not get in the crockpot until 9:45 and they had to cook for four hours! What?! That meant they would not be done until 1:45am. I was not about to stay up, so I put them in, went to bed, set an alarm and got up mashed the potatoes and went right back to bed. Lol!
Here is the link for the recipe. I followed it exactly and they turned out great!
Here is them in the crockpot….
The only problem is… I just realized that I did not take a picture of the finished product.
Let it be known, it was 1:45 am when I mashed, but I did have all day to take a picture…
Funny story about the potatoes though. The crockpot in the picture above, is no longer with us.
We took the crockpot with us to A-Basin. Tj stuck it in the snow while we were waiting for a space on the camp grill to heat up our taters. Well, not thinking about it, after 20 minutes in the snow, he stuck it right onto the grill. Needless to say, the bottom completely cracked! There ended up being a nice hole in the bottom. So, that meant I had to get a new one right?! And the next day did just happen to be black friday right?! So, I replaced it with a beautiful red crockpot that came with a tiny crockpot for dips. 🙂 See?
So, that is my thanksgiving adventures! What are great stories from your Thanksgiving?!
Ok, so this place is one that I am looking forward to for the winter time, next winter to be exact! As I have mentioned or alluded to in previous posts, my husband and I are moving to Denver the first week of July! It is coming up super quickly! We are way excited! Not only are we excited for the healthier lifestyle, but the places to visit, the food to eat, the people to me, the school to go to, and the job to have. We are going to be out on our own away from anyone we know and so we are looking forward to this challenge.
Vail, CO is known as one of the top ski places in the United States. It has amazing skiing and is just beautiful! It is fairly expensive, but I at least just want to go walk around Vail and look at the shops and the resort and probably ski there once or twice. I have really started skiing this year and so moving to Colorado is sort of like a dream come true for any skier.
Here are some awesome pictures of Vail I found courtesy of Google.
You can’t tell me that is not quaint.
I know this may not mean too much to some of you, but there are so many slopes! I cannot wait to check out Vail!
And this is without snow, still super quaint and cute! Yay!
Welcome to my daydreams from today!
Feel free to come visit after we move out!
