Winter is honestly one of my favorite seasons! Growing up as a California girl, I never thought I would say that. I am still a beach bum at heart but I love winter! I really really do! There are so many things to love!
~ Snow! How can you not like snow?! I mean if you don’t ski or like to be outside I can see why you don’t like snow. I am not one of those people. I love to ski and play outside with my huskies in the snow! I love hiking in the snow. (Not ice) It is so beautiful and light and fluffy! It makes everything look so magical! I cannot get enough of it. I was ready for snow in July. I am such a weirdo.
~ The smells. Wintertime brings with it all the Christmas smells. Cinnamon, pine, frosting, firewood, wool, snow. All of them are such great smells! Wintertime is baking season in our house. TJ bakes more bread and more cookies. I bake pastries and occasionally another dessert. I tend to leave the baking to him! 😛 The smells are just so comforting!
~ Christmas! I am obsessed with Christmas! I love it a lot. I have been desperately trying to behave and not put out Christmas decorations too early or listen to Christmas music too early. It has been so hard! I love them so much! I love putting up a Christmas tree! The songs, the movies, the presents. I love giving gifts! Remembering the real reason for the season! Its all wonderful!
This year I am aiming to not be so stressed out during the holiday season. I am still in retail and that will make it difficult but I am aiming to end the year as stress free as possible!
Enjoy this season! Don’t stress about it!
Denver is known for its snow. Whenever someone thinks of a terrible winter, they often think of Denver or Minnesota or Alaska. Winter in Denver is not all that bad. See, where it sticks around on the East Coast because the sun rarely comes out in the winter time, Denver has over 300 days of sunshine. 300 days of sunshine means sure we might get a pretty decent amount of snow, but it doesn’t stick around too too long. The sun comes out and melts it. Its lovely.
Anyway, here is why Denver is awesome in the winter!
~ It snows! ( I love snow, we just got our first snow of the season!)
~ It melts quickly! (Even better, not too much ice!)
~ It snows again! (Yay snow!)
~ It melts again!
~ The mountains keep their snow, so amazing skiing! (Skiing is my favorite activity!)
I would say those are pretty great reasons for winter in Denver! The mountains are beautifully snowcapped while Denver’s snow is melting and making driving easier. You should come visit at least once. Doesn’t matter the season, they are all wonderful here in Beautiful Colorado!
November is usually a month where people are saying what they are thankful for. I am thankful for so much, don’t get me wrong. But the holidays also bring things that I am just not looking forward to. Especially working in retail… You know what I’m saying?
Here we go…
~ Christmas shoppers who are grumpy because they have been out all day with family and it has not been a pleasant experience. Spread some joy and love! Also, don’t do all of your Christmas shopping on one day! Spread it out!
~ The long hours working retail during the holidays. Oh man, it is exhausting. I am a girl who absolutely loves Christmas. I am seriously a young child every year around this time. Everything fascinates me, the colors, the lights, the smells, I love it! Working retail can really take that out of you.
~ Driving in the snow. I will admit, I have gotten better but I am still not great. It still scares the living daylights out of me. When you start sliding… oh man there goes my blood pressure just thinking about it.
~ Denver drivers in the snow. With the amount of transplants that Denver has, not everyone has come from a state where they had to drive in the snow. They just do not know how to do so half the time. Scares me and drives me crazy!
~ Not being close to family for the holidays. I am such a sap. I love having family close by for the holidays. I love waking up to the smell of waffles, cinnamon gravy and bacon. (And coffee of course) I love coming into the living room and sharing presents with everyone. It always makes me so sad to not be close to family. It is just so dang hard to get time of for Christmas or Thanksgiving when you work retail.
So, I totally spaced on writing up about starting on week #2 but I definitely started it! If there is anything that I have no trouble focusing on, it is my marriage. I love being married and I love TJ more than anything in the world. I am always striving to better our relationship and making sure I am treating him the way I should be.
Anyway, here is what the goals for week two have been:
~ Respect him.
~ Offer to help him.
~ Know his love language.
~ Point out his strengths. (Be specific.)
~ Be his sexy wife.
I don’t want to go into as much detail about each of these points (especially the last one lol). These ones are things that you are going to have to think about the specifics for your husband. I feel like some of these are private things between me and TJ, kind of like our little secret. I know the ways to respect him and to love him in his love language, but I don’t want to share that with the internets. So, take a look at this list and think about your husband and how to best show him this. I have been working diligently on it this week and can’t wait to share about the next set of points to focus on here in a couple days.
On a side note, we had snow the last day or so. In May! What?! Why?! Then by Sunday it will be back up to 86 degrees. I’m telling you, Denver is crazy!
On another side note, I get to see Needtobreathe on Wednesday! I haven’t seen them since college around the time TJ and I started dating. That is a fairly long time! Considering before that, I was seeing them at least once a year. Lol.
Well, I’m off!
So, I was wracking my brain on the way home from work today, trying to figure out what in the world to take a picture to demonstrate joyous. I mean don’t get me wrong, I am super excited about all the snow we are getting. And that is something to be joyous about. The season itself is something to be joyous about. It is a celebration of the birth of Christ! But I really was just drawing a blank on how to photograph joyous.
I then got home and we are dog sitting another husky right now, so that means two huskies in the house. They needed to go potty right away. They did their business right away and then started going crazy in the snow. Huskies love snow, I have come to find out. Like really love snow! As I am watching them bolting around the yard, I realize what demonstrates joyous better than two huskies and their love for snow?!?!! So, I ran inside and grabbed my camera. I think I got a few decent shots!
You can just see the half crazed looks in their eyes. LOL!
Snow makes huskies super playful! 🙂
After got a little worn down, they stopped long enough for me to grab a couple of glamour shots. 😛
I love my beautiful boy! His eyes get me every time!
Halo got in the way a little bit on this one, but I just love it anyway.
Halo is awesome! He has one blue eye and one brown eye and apparently loves to eat snow! Lol!
It is finally warm here in the lovely Denver, Co! Yay!!! April has brought more snow than we got most of the season. How crazy is that?! We have had two or three snow storms over the last couple of weeks. Here let me show you….
How crazy is that?! This is April! Virginia and Pennsylvania are getting much warmer weather, why can’t we!?
Today we have finally made it up to 62 degrees! Yay! There is a 30% chance of snow on Wednesday but I am really hoping it doesn’t. I am just done with the snow. I know I know, we need the moisture. We have restrictions already on our water usage and we need to get our reservoirs filled up but dude, can we please be done?!
So, anyway, I definitely plan on getting out in the sun today. The house needs a little tidying first but I have every intention of being outside and enjoying the weather!
