Kauai, I Miss You

Kauai was an amazing, once in a lifetime trip. I am so glad that we took this time to go and get away for awhile. I am glad TJ and I finally had some time just for us. It was a really magical place and I would love to go back again some day!

Fun facts:
~ It is crazy hot and humid there.
~ Hanalei has some super great farmers markets
~ Snowcones are delicious, get it with ice cream!
~ Puka Dog makes the best lemonade ever!
~ The Kalalau is dangerous, don’t slip
~ Jurassic Park was filmed partly on Kauai
~ So was South Pacific (Bali Hai, hidden island, come to me…)
~ A lot of movies have scenes filmed in Kauai

Hanalei Bay was honestly one of my favorite parts. It was absolutely peaceful and stunning. No wonder they filmed South Pacific there. We went out on the pier at sunset and got these wonderful shots!

Kauai was amazing and beautiful! I highly recommend going if you get the chance!

Kalalau

Not gonna lie, when we were talking to people on the island about Kalalau, the trail and the beach, everyone seemed super reverential and kind of mystical about it. I thought it was weird and just kind of the islanders being islanders. I know I know, super tourist here! But then you get out on the trail and you realize why they are that way.

This was my first backpacking trip ever. It was 11 miles in and then back out. We did it in 3 days. 11 miles in the first day and then we split the trip back over the next two days. (Much better decision there.) It is truly a remarkable trail and beach. I can understand why so many people are so in awe.

So, this was our view for the majority of the time. Rough right?!

The water was so extremely blue, especially along the coast!

We loved taking pictures! How could you not love that view?!

We came across some trees on a hill that looked so much like the brooms from Fantasia. It was hilarious!

DCIM100GOPRO

As you can see, our walkway was not very big. Lol!

By the end of the first night, we had arrived at Kalalau Beach which is only accessible by hiking or by boat. Not many people who travel to Kauai get to see this beautiful beach! Definitely worth the torturous hike that we had just finished. I slept like a baby that night!

DCIM100GOPRO

The funny thing about the Kalalau is that there is a group of homeless people that live there. Often times they are fully nude. I saw more naked bodies than I cared to. They live in the caves and in the valley that spreads out behind the beach, the valley I showed you earlier last week. You could live off of passion fruit forever back there. It is crazy!

On our way back, we found this amazing waterfall! It seriously went on forever and ever! Tallest waterfall I have ever seen in person!

DCIM100GOPRO

Definitely way taller than me! 😛

Now that I have conquered what Backpacker Magazine has labeled one of the top 10 deadliest hikes in the country, I feel like I can take on most other backpacking trips that come my way! Bring it on Colorado!

Kauai: Playing in the Water

Snorkeling! I love snorkeling so much! Seriously one of my favorite things to do ever! We saw so many cool fish! I saw a bright purple and yellow one! It ran away before I got a good picture of it though. Anyway, here is the fun we had while we were snorkeling on the northern coast of Kauai!

Just look at how clear that water is!

DCIM100GOPRO

Little fishies! They were everywhere!

DCIM100GOPRO

See, what did I tell ya?!

DCIM100GOPRO

Then there were some bigger fishies!

All over the place, I’m tellin’ ya!

DCIM100GOPRO

I am not sure which one of this is, but it is a way cool picture!

I love how TJ got this shot! So so cool!

If you were to look through all of the pictures we took on this trip, you would see how much we loved snorkeling. The majority of our pictures were while we were snorkeling!

Loved it!

Have you ever been snorkeling? What was the coolest fish you saw?!

See ya!

Kauai: Surfin’ Time

On one of the days, TJ and our friends that we went with decided to take surfing lessons. TJ had always wanted to and I was just not feeling it. It happens. I had a great day otherwise. But watching these guys try to stay upright on the surfboard was hilarious! I got pictures of all of them standing though!

Here is everybody headed out to take the lesson! They came to realize the long boards are wayyyyyy easier than the short boards!

They had so much fun! They were totally sore afterwards too! Found muscles they don’t use very often!

Have you tried surfing? How did you do?

Let’s Go On a Trip!

Well, tonight at about 3am I along with my hubby and my in-laws leave to go to the Outer Banks for a week! Yay!! I love the beach and would live there if I could only convince my hubby to do so. We are so ready for a vacation. This year has just been so busy with job changes, and trying to build up some money to move across the country, and school, and graduation. It has just been a whirlwind and we could use a week-long break right before we move at the end of the month.

Going this week is also a special week for another reason. On Monday, TJ and I will have been married for a whole year. Yay!!! Like I said, it has been a long year and super busy. I would not have wanted to do with anyone else but TJ. We went to the Outer Banks on our honeymoon last year so that makes this trip that much more special. We get to spend our one year in the place where we honeymooned. I honestly can’t even wait. Of course, I will post stories and pictures throughout the week. I am sure there will be plenty of stories about my hubby and my brother and sister in-laws. They can get a little goofy sometimes or rather all the time.

The Outer Banks is one of my favorite vacation spots. I have been there several times and honestly I would just love to live there, not just vacation there. It is so peaceful and quiet and yet there are so many things to do and see. I can’t wait to go back this week. While we are not staying in the exact house we stayed in last year, we will be fairly close and I love that area, so it does not get any better than that!

I’m off to get stuff done before work tonight and then off on our trip!
See ya!

Wanderlust Wednesday

So, I was thinking about what I wanted to write about today. I did not have anything too new happen to me or anything but I just felt like I wanted to write. I began thinking about where my focus and daydreams have been lately and today being my day off, daydreams are definitely more present. My mind has been wandering Yosemite, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Monterey, Peru, Cuzco, Argentina, Rio De Janiero, (did I spell that right?) Mexico, Scotland, Florida, Disney World, New York City, San Francisco, France, Spain, Italy, and any other number of places. I long to travel. I long to see the world. I long to explore local fares of far away places. There are national parks all over the U.S. that I want to hike and explore. I love to have a home base to come back to, but honestly I just want to travel so badly. I get restless in one place for too long.

So, for today’s place of the day, my daydreams lie in San Diego. I grew up in Central California and was actually born in San Diego. It is one of my favorite places.

I love this city! I desperately want to live there and just enjoy the lifestyle and the cultures that are in place there.

There is not only the city to explore, that has wonderful fares such as fish tacos and some authentic mexican food (since it is right on the border of Mexico, there is also the beach and the parks such as Balboa Park, Wild Animal Park, and the San Diego Zoo. There is so much to do and see in San Diego. I have honestly only touched on some of my favorite parts of San Diego. I just love the weather and the culture that surrounds the City. You can take tours, you can whale watch, you can lay on the beach, you can visit some parks and museums, you can shop. It is just a great city.

Plus, you just can’t go wrong with the San Diego beaches. They are just absolutely beautiful!

So there you are, my daydream spot of the day. It is definitely a note worthy spot to daydream about.

See ya!
